Women are just as competitive as men in most cases. This is proven by the number of women who compete each year in marathons all around the United States. There are even marathons held at Disney World and Disneyland. There are Diva Marathons and a Nike Women’s marathon as well as the Nike half marathon. The Nike race is held in San Francisco and it is the largest women-focused event in the world and rather than medals, winners take home Tiffany necklaces if they are one of the lucky ones to take home the win. There are so many marathons that it would take forever to name them all, but some of the most fun marathons are truly worth checking out if you love running.
Thelma and Louise Half Marathon
This half marathon is a very flat running course that goes beside the Colorado River. It is designed so that runners can easily improve their personal best while “outrunning the law”. It is a lady’s only event, and many choose to show up in full costume to pay tribute to the 1991 movie that starred Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon.
The SoCal Wine Country Half Marathon
If you are one of the lucky ladies to finish this marathon, you will be treated to a medal that doubles as a wine stopper and after you have celebrated a successful finish, you can take your wine glass home with you. The catch is that it covers 11,000 acres at the Vail Lake Resort and it is a course that runs through pine covered mountain tops. If you enjoy wine, but not mountains, you can also join the Wicked Wine Run.
See Jane Run
The See Jane Run race is not a spectacular event until you cross the finish line. One through the ribbons, you will find champagne and chocolates. However, before the race, you will take part in an 80s style aerobic warm up. Men are welcome to attend and participate with you. They can munch on the yummy treats at the end, but prizes are reserved for the ladies.
